Discover how improved discharge communications can play a key role in reducing ED ALOS. Too often, emergency patients are ready for admission but beds aren't ready on the floors, creating a bottleneck in patient flow. That was the case at JFK Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL. Using Lean tools and simulation modeling to identify the optimal admission and discharge patterns, the Center increased pre-noon discharges and improved discharge communications, reducing ED ALOS by nearly 2 hours per patient.
