A discussion of the operational, outreach and technology issues involved in moving a stroke program from good to great.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability and the third leading cause of death in the United States. More than 600 hospitals in the U.S. have become certified as stroke centers but the performance gap between these centers of excellence and other hospitals remains wide. As a result, many of the 795,000 Americans who will suffer a stroke this year will not receive optimal care.

This white paper analyzes the challenges in improving and standardizing stroke care and outlines the three fundamentals - operations, outreach, and technology - that are essential for a stroke program to achieve excellence.
