Making high productivity the norm, not the exception, in healthcare

Positive productivity growth is an achievable goal for organizations that are willing to commit to a multi-year journey in building a performance excellence culture. It's also a necessary goal. Unless hospitals and health systems invest the time and resources to make the systemic adjustments necessary to deliver higher quality outcomes at a lower cost, many will have to curtail their care missions and some will be forced out of business entirely. Organizations that survive and thrive will be those that internalize performance excellence processes and build a systems-level approach to productivity improvement. That journey is taking place at many healthcare institutions right now.
